Quick Plug.

Since I haven't updated this site in ages, my links on the right are all old and out of date. Most importantly, a blogger whose writing I greatly admire is missing from the "deeply dig" section: Flurrious. Supremely awesome, snarky, gleefully sarcastic. Go. Read. American Idol is starting a new season. You'll thank me.

Also, I started a little fart-in-the-wind blog, mainly because I had this weird domain name and nothing to do with it. Might someday turn into something funny. Might not.

Vegas.

Vegas was awesome, but not for the reasons I expected. The trade show was gigantic and crowded and loud and bright and blinky and excessive (150 inch plasma TVs! 150 decibels!). The hotel, however, was a huge disappointment - I saw bigger crowds there three months ago on a Tuesday night. No scantily clad porn stars cavorting anywhere. Very disappointing. Best thing I got was 10 seconds of an overheard conversation on an escalator:
"...Yeah, I'm pretty fuckin' proud that it got nominated for Best Threesome. Could really lead to some fun work if I win."

The truly awesome part of the weekend had nothing to do with the hotel or the trade show. I was able to reconnect with someone whom I fell out of touch with a few years ago, for reasons that I don't even really remember. We had a lot of fun laughing, eating, and just enjoying each other's company.

Until I broke her nose. But that's another story.

Weekend preview!

This weekend I'll be in Las Vegas for CES, the big consumer electronics trade show. Coincidentally, it's the same weekend the Adult Entertainment Expo and AVN porn awards are in town. Those who know me know that I'm not really all that into porn, but I am definitely interested in seeing all the freaky people walkin' around Vegas this weekend. I'll be carrying my camera everywhere, and will attempt to document as much of the insanity as I possibly can for you, dear reader.

Mmm... sociology.

Pies.

In the last three weeks, I've baked 8 pies.
Apple!Pecan!
I'm told that I make a pretty good pie, but I'm not too sure about that. I like my pies, but I can never tell if people are bullshitting me. I've narrowed it down to three options:
1. My pies are good.
2. My pies are bad.
3. My pies are good, based on the diminished expectations of a guy like me baking a tasty pie. Like the village idiot, everyone is happy if he manages to not shit himself.
Maybe I'm being a little tough on myself. Either way, I still like my pies. Apple's my specialty, and I like to use a variety of different apples in my pies - usually a mix of Fuji, Honeycrisp, and Cameo.

I've been using recipes downloaded from Food Network's website, with a few tweaks that make sense to me. Hit me up in the comments if you'd like to check out my recipes.

New, new, new. Old!

So much ado about new this and new that and new beginnings and new resolutions and new changes. I've made a new resolution for 2009 to be happy with the old. The old me, faults and all, is a pretty damn good person. But in years past, I lost that basic truth and focused too much on changing and not enough on appreciating.

Most, if not all, readers of this blog are people I am quite fond of, and I am fond of you exactly as you are. I can even think of a few (most!) of you whom I hold in very high regard, higher even than you hold yourselves, which is the only thing I would ever choose to change about you.

In this NEW year, while you chart out your resolutions and the things that you want to change about yourself, take a little inventory of just how fuckin' cool you really are.
